It is with heavy hearts that we regretfully announce the passing of Captain Apostolos Bouzakis, a great man and beloved member of our Celebrity family.
Captain Bouzakis passed away this morning in his home in Greece, surrounded by his wife and two children. As a member of our Celebrity family for 27 years, he was highly admired, respected, and loved by his crew and all who knew him.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time, and to our crew members who sailed or worked closely with him on board Celebrity Reflection.
This is a devastating loss, and he will truly be missed.
Dear friends,
I'm sure that many of you are aware by now that Celebrity lost a dear and beloved family member last week.
It is with a heavy heart that I share the
news of the passing of Captain Apostolos Bouzakis. Many of you sailed with Captain Bouzakis over the years as he
was with Celebrity for 27 years. We all have wonderful memories of working with him and sailing with him. I'm certain you do as well.
Captain Bouzakis was only 51 years old and left behind his wife and two young children, who were with him when he passed. He was home in Greece on vacation. He is being mourned around the world by all who knew, respected, and admired him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, crew mates and colleagues who worked with him on board Celebrity Reflection® or throughout his esteemed career at Celebrity.
If you knew or sailed with Captain Bouzakis and would like to share one of your favorite stories or memories of him, I invite you to share those on our Facebook page. If you have any photos, please share those, too. The ships flew their flags at half-mast and a ring of roses was tossed into the ocean in his memory, as is befitting a lost seaman. We collectively mourn his loss and will keep his wife and children in our prayers as they get through this difficult time.
Treasure every moment. Life is precious.
As always, all my very best,
Lisa Lutoff-Perlo
